Pip Says
For children aged 2 to 6

First English words for little ones, through play

Pip Says is an iPhone and iPad app that helps children aged 2 to 6 learn their first English words through play. It's made for families who speak another language at home, so Pip can ask every question in your language too.

How it works

Pip asks. Your child taps. Stars fill the jar.

No reading needed and nothing to type. Every word is said out loud, so even a two-year-old can play on their own.

1

Pip asks for a word

"Where is the cow?" Pip says it out loud in a clear English voice, as many times as your child wants to hear it.

2

Your child taps the picture

A right answer gets a cheer from Pip and their animal friend. A wrong tap gets a gentle "Try again" and a clue: the right picture wiggles and makes its sound, like a moo or a beep beep.

3

Stars fill the jar

Every right answer drops a star in the jar. Full jars bring new toys for their own little room, so there's always a reason to play again.

Two ways to play: Find it, where Pip asks, and Listen, where your child taps any picture to hear its name.

Your language helps

Made for homes where English isn't the first language

The words your child learns are English. Everything around them can be in yours. Buttons and grown-up pages come in ten languages, and if a question is too hard, one tap on the purple button and Pip asks it in your language, then in English again.

English voices: British or American, a woman or a man. You can slow the voice down too.

¿Dónde está el plátano?
Muz nerede?
أين الموزة؟
  1. Pip asks in English first.
  2. Not sure yet? Tap the purple button.
  3. Pip asks in your language, then in English again, so the English word is the one that sticks.

For grown-ups

Calm, safe, and on your terms

Everything a parent controls sits in the parents' corner, behind a check a small child can't pass. A weekly view shows how many words they heard and found.

A daily play time

Choose how long they can play each day. When time's up, the app shows a goodnight screen or a friendly reminder. Time only counts while a game is open.

A PIN only you know

With a PIN set, only you can unlock the app, add ten more minutes or lift the limit for today.

No ads, no account

Nothing to sign up for, no adverts, and nothing your child can buy by accident. Purchases sit behind the grown-ups check.

Works offline

Every word, picture and voice is inside the app, so it plays on a plane, in the car or at grandma's without Wi-Fi.

One app for siblings

Add each child. Each one gets their own friend, name and stars, and children never see each other's progress.

Sound the way you like it

A slower voice, sound effects, animal sounds and vibration each have their own switch, and one switch turns every sound off at once. A calmer screen means less movement too.

Price

Free to start. Pay once if you love it.

Try the first three topics for free, for as long as you like. If your child loves it, one payment unlocks the rest. No subscription, and the App Store shows the price in your own currency.

  • Free: Animals, Food and Numbers. 32 words.
  • One payment: Home, Vehicles, Toys and every word we add later.
  • One purchase covers every child you add in the app, and comes back with "Restore purchases" on a new device.
Questions

What parents ask us

What age is Pip Says for?

Pip Says is made for children aged about 2 to 6. Your child doesn't need to read: Pip says every word out loud, and your child answers by tapping a picture.

Does it help if we don't speak English at home?

Yes, that's who it's made for. The words your child learns are English, and the buttons and grown-up pages come in your language. If a question is too hard, the purple button makes Pip ask it in your language first, then in English again.

Which languages can I choose?

Buttons and grown-up pages come in English, Russian, Turkish, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Polish, Arabic, Japanese and Chinese (Simplified). The English voice can be British or American, a woman or a man.

Can it teach my child a language other than English?

Not yet. Pip Says teaches English words. Your home language is there to help, so your child always understands what Pip is asking.

Are there ads, or anything my child could buy by mistake?

No ads, ever. Purchases, settings and anything that leaves the app sit in the parents' corner, behind a check a small child can't pass.

Can I limit how long my child plays?

Yes. Choose a daily play time in the parents' corner. When it's up, the app shows a goodnight screen or a friendly reminder, and with a PIN only you can add more time.

Does it work without internet?

Yes. Every word, picture and voice is inside the app, so it works on a plane or in the car.

How much does it cost?

It's free to download, and Animals, Food and Numbers are free to play. One payment unlocks Home, Vehicles, Toys and every word we add later. There's no subscription, and the App Store shows the price in your own currency.

Does my child need an account?

No. There's no account and no sign-up. Stars, names and settings stay on your device and in your own iCloud, where we can't see them.

Is Pip Says on Android?

Not yet. Pip Says is made for iPhone and iPad.
